Beijing's Shunyi district reached agreements for up to $789 million with enterprises from Hong Kong at an economic cooperation meeting held in Beijing on Nov 27-28, with a majority of projects focusing on new energy, new technology research and development, and cross-border e-commerce.

Shunyi is building up its airport core area, and intends to grow into a green international air harbor. It conducted a promotion at the Beijing Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium on Nov 27, introducing its Beijing Tianzhu Comprehensive Bonded Zone, Beijing Airport Economic Core Zone, Beijing Technological Innovation Industry Functional Zone, and Green and Ecological Industry Functional Zone.

While its leading industries are airport services and manufacturing, the district is also developing specific industries related to aviation, automobile manufacturing, telecommunications, and equipment manufacturing.

In 2014, it had 125 manufacturing and 46 high-tech companies with total out-put reaching 292.39 billion yuan. Its automobile industry and high-end services industry together constitute sustainable development.

Shunyi also supports its e-commerce industry and brings together e-commerce enterprises. Its Tianzhu bonded area and departments and experts from both cities joined the discussion about the development of cross-border e-commerce with the opportunity of "Internet Plus".

The district signed a 400-million-dollar investment project for construction of a technological innovation headquarters in Beijing and a 200-million-dollar electric bus project with Hong Kong, boosting cooperation in technological innovation between the two cities.

E-business, especially cross-border e-commerce, has grown quickly in Shunyi and the district now has 63 companies doing e-commerce business. Development of cross-border e-commerce in the district can take advantage of the high-end logistics park adjacent to the Capital International Airport as well as the preferential policies provided in the Tianzhu bonded area.

The cross-border e-commerce industry is expected to become a key economic factor in Shunyi and will also serve as a power engine for other industries.

The Beijing Hong Kong Economic Cooperation Symposium, the 19th of its kind, was held to strengthen economic cooperation between Beijing and Hong Kong. It has been an effective platform for both cities to increase communication and boost investment cooperation.

The Shunyi district has maintained a wide economic and trade cooperation relationship with Hong Kong. Hong Kong's enterprises are rich in resources of high-end industries, and its modern services in finance, technology, and business are in line with Shunyi's development and requirements.

More than 200 Hong Kong-invested companies are doing business in Shunyi and making proactive contributions to the district.
