The Ministry of Culture has placed great significance on this remake of The White Haired Girl this year.

As President Xi Jinping stressed to artists not to pursue commercial success at the expense of producing work with artistic and moral value during a cultural and art seminar in October last year, the Ministry shoulders the responsibility to pass on the traditional and classics in art and culture, guide the future of China's artistic development, and discover new performing talents.

"This remake of The White Haired Girl is significant, in that not only does it passes the classic play and China's theater and folk ark further on, but also concerns the artistic development plan of the Party, the future of China's art and who art should really serve," said a member of the Ministry.

"While the old society coerced humans into soulless creatures, the new society brought their hearts back to them."

This is the main theme expressed by The White Haired Girl.

The Ministry hopes the remake can ignite the production of more works of quality that can stand the test of time.

In order to target the younger audience, a 3D theatrical film based on The White Haired Girl is under production.

The White Haired Girl is scheduled for 19 performances, with stops in Beijing and Shanghai, as well as cities in Shanxi, Hebei, Guangdong, Hunan, Zhejiang, Shandong and Jilin provinces.
