Cooking academies bring sizzle back to kitchens

Fissler, one of the world's leading cookware brands, is promoting an energetic and healthy kitchen experience in China through its Fissler Academy program, which offer a series of cooking courses and educational programs that allow people to experience the passion and pleasure of cooking.

Fissler academies persuade participants to get away from the online social world and meet family and friends face to face.

China's sixth Fissler Academy was unveiled in Qing-dao in September. There are two in Shanghai, one in Beijing, and another two in Suzhou.

Dubbed the "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry" of the gourmet world, the Fissler Academy encourages people to cook meals from scratch. It also aims to cultivate personal hobbies and grooming, developing the interest of children in cooking, and serve as a platform for young professional chefs to learn and exchange experiences.

At Fissler Academy, people can learn the finer things of life and make friends, said Markus Kepka, global CEO of Fissler Germany.

Children, adults and professional chefs alike can all discover the joy of cooking in the academy, Kepka added.

To add to the credibility and prestige of the academy, Fissler Academy has invited several international industry heavyweights to be advisers, including Paul Pairet, founder of Ultraviolet and Mr & Mrs Bund, Jacky Yu, founder of Xi Yan restaurant from Hong Kong, Lebenslauf Wsthof, the seventh-generation helmsman and global CEO of world leading cutlery manufacturer Wsthof, as well as renowned chefs from five-star hotels.

Courses in the Fissler Academy are different from traditional teaching.

"The most interesting part of Fissler Academy is DIY cooking," said Pairet, who specializes in cooking authentic French dishes.

Besides cooking classes, there are classes on wine, coffee and tea appreciation, dining table decoration, table manners and nutrition classes.

Internationally renowned chefs will also give seminars to aspiring young professional chefs.

"We try to change the common process of business into a kind of joyfulness and this is our secret to attract so many loyal fans," Kepka said.

"Fissler has a mature market in China and we will continue seeking the best opportunity to establish the Fissler academy by cooperating with selected commercial projects," Kepka said.

"Our goal is to open up to 40 or 50 branches of the academy all over the country," Kepka added.
