Cultural exchange with Africa through movies and TV drama series

The 2015 Beijing TV Dramas and Movies Broadcasting Exhibitiion takes place in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sept 22, 2015.

A slew of movies and TV drama series from Beijing will be broadcast in Africa as the 2015 Beijing TV dramas and movie season begins in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Sept 22, 2015.

The event is among the Beijing Week activities featured in the Year of China in South Africa celebrations hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television.

Around 30 TV drama series and movies will be aired for a year, showing the lives of ordinary people in modern Beijing, and enabling audiences in Africa to gain a fuller understanding of common Chinese people.

These TV drama series and movies are dubbed in English, French and several local languages by StarTimes, the only private enterprise in China certified to contract for radio and television foreign distribution projects.

The TV drama series to be aired include "The Young Doctor," "The Sweet Burden," "Marriage of the Mi Family" and "The Ordinary World," while the movies include "Love is Not Blind," "Miss Granny," "A Wedding Invitation" and "The Left Ear."

Beijing leads China in producing TV dramas and movies. It now has more than 3,400 institutions specializing in Movie and TV production and operation, producing over 3,000 TV episodes and nearly 300 movies per year.

The city also holds the annual Beijing International Film Festival and Beijing TV Programs Trading Fair, which have attracted Chinese and international professional participation.
