The capital of Beijing is opening up its service sector, a trial to accumulate experience that can be shared across the country.
Six areas were given top priority, including science, information technology, finance, tourism, health and culture.
The capital has clarified its role as a national center of politics, culture, international exchanges, and technological innovation in its integrated development with neighboring Tianjin and Hebei province.
As non-capital functions shift away from the city modern services are the best support for Beijing's future role, said Liu Haiquan, assistant minister of commerce.
He said the three-year pilot will boost Beijing's high-end service sector and provide a replicable model in the future. This move will also benefit Hebei and Tianjin in their economic restructuring, he added.
