Beijing's Palace Museum will move away its parking lot in the next five years and no parking will be allowed in the tourist site according to director of the Palace Museum Shan Qixiang's speech at the sixth international ecological city forum.
All the cars should be parked outside the wall of the Palace Museum and people should walk into the museum themselves after parking their cars. There are over hundreds of cars parking inside the Palace Museum, including over 830 personal cars owned by its staffs.
Shan also said the overloaded parking seriously impacts the overall environment in the Palace Museum and may also potentially impose threat to the historical buildings.
This move is meant to strengthen the security of national protected relics and release the pressure of traffic flow inside the Palace Museum.
