Beijing's cultural and creative industries contributed 13 percent of the capital's total industrial added value over the first half of 2015, showing great potential for future development.
As the industry benefits from more investment, consumption growth, new business models, and expanded cultural trading, it has become a pillar in Beijing's economy.
During the first half of 2015, revenues of cultural and creative companies with annual revenues over 20 million yuan ($3.1 million) totalled 491.6 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.4 percent. The industry employed one million workers and had fixed assets investment of 10.78 billion yuan.
Spending on education, culture and entertainment in Beijing rose sharply from last year, averaging 1,593 yuan per resident, up by 11.5 percent. The figure ranked fourth among eight categories of residential consumption, after transportation and communication, eating and drinking, and housing.
Beijing is the cultural center of China and boasts lots of cultural resources and advantages. The capital now has 20 cultural and creative parks housing more than 74,000 units, accounting for 50.8 percent of the total across the city, and 1.2 million workers, 65.2 percent of the total. These parks are playing a leading role in the city's cultural and creative industries.
