Song Fengxia

Song Fengxia, born in 1961, a resident of Beijing's Mentougou district, is known to local residents for her kindness and filial piety, which she showed not only for her own parents, but also for a couple of childless seniors in her neighborhood for more than 30 years.

Thirty years ago, 24-year-old Song Fengxia found that the elderly couple, Wu Yingqi, 71, and Jia Xiuying, 60, had no children and lived by themselves in the same residential community, even during Spring Festival, the most important festival for family reunion in China.

Since then, Song has voluntarily taken care of the couple and helped do housekeeping almost every day, such as buying groceries, mopping the floor, as well as house cleaning and laundry. She visits them with her handmade dumplings and a paper-cut of "Fu", a traditional decoration for Spring Festival, during the family reunion holiday.

Every time Song buys gifts for her family members, she often prepares an extra for the couple. When she buys new clothes for her mother and mother-in-law, she always chooses a third for Grandma Jia and takes some yogurt, candies and cakes for Grandpa Wu when she buys snacks for her child.

Now, Grandpa Wu is 101 years old and unable to look after himself, even unable to control bodily functions. Song helped him put on clean trousers and clean up the mess, beyond many children's treatment of their own parents.

One day, an incident occurred -- Grandma Jia was hurt by a broken mirror and bleeding on her finger just before Song happened to visit them. Song was shocked by the scene – Jia crumpled to the floor with blood all over her hand. She provided first aid treatment at once and called for ambulance.

After stitching the wound, the doctor said that Grandma Jia would have died if she had not been sent to the hospital for surgery.

Nowadays, Song visits them twice or three times a day even though she is tight on time and money. Her mother-in-law has been suffering from heart disease and father-in-law has had cerebral thrombosis for years.

Her soul and dedication have touched the lives of her neighbors. She doesn't see things in payment and repayment. In her eyes, there is only the kindness of the heart, no matter whom she is helping.
