About an hour and half out from downtown Beijing proper, Beizhai village located in Nandulehe, Pinggu district, will welcome crowds of tourists this month to visit for their tasty apricots.
The local government has launched a one-month tourism and culture event, beginning on June 16, to promote tourism, with a focus on their Beizhai apricots.
"Even the ones that aren't ripened have a kick of both sour and sweet flavours," a Beizhai villager said.
Another local added "You can only get this savoury taste here, try some apricots grown outside of this village and you’ll see that they don't compare."

The residents of Beizhai village are proud of their fruit. And after sampling one, you will see that they live up to the hype.
Beizhai apricots have their unique flavour because of local climate conditions. The village has distinct seasons, with lots of sunshine and high temperatures in the day, but low temperatures at night. Due to the huge temperature gap between day and night, sugar accumulation is magnified in their fruit.
The soil also has rich mineral and chemical content that includes nitrogen, phosphorus, and kalium, adding to the nutrition value and taste.
Ascending a small mountain trail makes the influence of apricots obvious. In every direction there are trees bearing apricots, and there is a constant stream of residents bringing down full loads of the produce to sell at the nearby market.
Near the apex of the path, one can look down and glimpse a sea of fruit growing down the mountainside. With scenic vistas and apricots to enjoy, Beizhai is a definite must-see.
