Fu Sheng, a historic play that pays tribute to a Qin Dynasty (221-206 BC) scholar, closed the first China Original Drama Invitational Exhibition on July 14, which was organized by National Theater of China.

"Theater plays an important role in life. Though with more forms of entertainment vying for people's attention, we are confident about bringing audiences back to this stage form," said Wang Xiaoying, director of the drama.

The drama exhibition, which kicked off on March 15, saw more than 100 performances from theater companies nationwide, including Beijing People's Art Theater, Yunnan Art Theater and Shanghai-based Modern Drama Valley, during the past three months in Beijing.

"We have never before gathered together so many original Chinese dramas from around the country in Beijing. These works contain distinctive local cultures," Zhou Yuyuan, president of National Theater of China, said at the closing of the event.
