Some four dozen companies from the city of Beijing's Zhongguancun Science Park are taking part in the 14th China International Environmental Protection Exhibition & Conference for 2015, in the city, June 9-12, to put around 150 of their latest technology and products for environmental protection and energy saving on display.
Zhongguancun is using the exhibition as an opportunity to show its work in promoting the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei collaborative development program in environmental pollution controls. It displays cooperation projects in the city of Tianjin and Hebei province, for example, power plant gas desulfurization, sea water desalination, and drinking water.
The park's companies have also showcased the development of smart environmental protection that combines the Internet and big data with environmental protection.
With the help of a system based on cloud computing and the "Internet of Things", information on the urban environment, sanitation equipment, and employment can be shared. The companies also have technology for real-time monitoring and management of vehicle exhaust emissions using cloud computing.
The park has played a leading role in environmental protection with some sophisticated, competitive innovations for controlling air pollution, and for environmental monitoring, sewage and garbage treatment, and ecological restoration.
The park's energy-saving and environmental protection sector is second only to its electronic information sector, getting more than 1,700 enterprises involved and employing 235,000 people. In 2014, its environmental protection and new energy output were worth 525.65 billion yuan ($84.7 billion), an increase of 24.7 percent year-on-year.
