Cao Guang would have spent his 703 days in Guinea peacefully, if not for an intimate experience with the deadly Ebola virus.

He is one of the Chinese doctors sent to Guinea for medical assistance in 2013.In March, 2014, Cao and other medical workers received their first confirmed Ebola patient in Conakry, capital of Guinea. when they’d no idea that death was greeting them face to face. SixGuinea medicaworkers died, and Cao was quarantined for 21 days.
During the quarantine period, Cao Guang displayed no fear to his colleagues or his wife Yu Wen, also a doctor. Yu Wen called Cao every day, and helped him monitor his health.

Cao Guang returned to the fight against Ebola soon after he was released from quarantine.
Cao conducted more than 200 surgeries on Guinean patients during his two-year stay, more than often in harsh conditions.
Conakry was often stroke by power cut, which pose a tough challenge for doctors in conducting surgery. Cao Guang once performed an appendix resection with the light of an electric torch.

As the Chinese ambassador to Guinea Bian Jianqiang said, doctors like Cao Guang have greatly contributed to the development of Sino-African friendship.
