Walking with kindness

Walking 1,864 miles in 68 days is not just a personal challenge for Tian Bojun, an ordinary Beijinger. He did it with a purpose — to raise money for nearly 200 students in a rural school.

Starting on March 20, Tian trudged thousands of miles from Kunming in Southwest China’s Yunnan province to Beijing, to raise funds for a rural school in Yunnan province. He arrived at the National Stadium in Beijing yesterday.

Tian said he was deeply impressed by the children during a visit to the Kangpu primary school in Diqing Prefecture of Yunnan province, which prompted him to make the decision to quit his job and go on a charity hike.

During the past two months, Tian shared his journey by posting photos on Wechat, a popular social Networking App in China. He walked through the country at about 31 miles per day.

Tian said he will raise funds for the children in Beijing.“All the donors can contact the school directly,” Tian said.

Ms Zhou, a teacher in Kangpu school, said she was grateful to Tian, “we didn’t expect him to keep the promise,” Zhou said.
