Car sharing app launches in Beijing
Person to person, or P2P, car sharing mobile application provider Atzuche.com's service hit the Beijing market on May 18. The company provides a platform for private car owners to rent their vehicles, with insurance and credit guarantees offered and managed by the company.
It announced it has experienced huge growth and now boasts almost 1 million members, more than 30,000 vehicles and about 7,000 different car models after the service was launched in Shanghai in May 2014.
Electric cars given free reign in Beijing
Pure electric passenger vehicles bearing Beijing license plates will not be affected by the city's car ban from June 1 to April 10, 2016, the Beijing traffic management bureau said on May 18.
Under the ban, cars with license plates that end in a specified number - such as a car with a plate number that ends in 7 and a separate vehicle with a plate number ending in 2 - will be banned between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. on a specified weekday within the capital's Fifth Ring Road.
Many large cities in China have imposed restrictions on vehicles in recent years to ease traffic congestion and reduce pollution.
