An exhibition of export quality antiqued furniture and crafts is open for appreciation in Beijing's Daxing district, April 10 – 19, with furniture, inlay, lacquer, carving works, and filigree on display.

The antiqued Chinese furniture is from the Beijing Heyixing Classical Furniture Co that specializes in Ming and Qing dynasty-style furniture and modern classical furniture. It is exhibiting its "Impression of China" series, made of black walnut wood from North America and designed by Italy's Marcello Bennati, as a combination of Chinese elements and modern Western home ideas and intended especially for foreign customers.

The black walnut wood is rigid, fine and smooth in yellow or brown and is believed by the Chinese to exorcise evil spirits. It is also environmentally friendly, fashionable, and intelligent in contrast to other popular top woods such as gold nanmu, huanghuali and rosewood.

Some other crafts on display are produced by the Beijing Gongmei Group for export, inculding lacquer inlaid wood carving, filigree, and other antiques.

Lacquer inlaid wood carving is an innovative combination of wood carving and lacquer, first created by Zong Dechang, a member of the Chinese Artists Association and a senior art ware carver.
