The district has a long history of ornamental stone production thanks to local conditions and has an abundance of stone, with two special varieties -- Xuanyuan and Jinhai.
Many ornamental stone events are becoming a tourism resource locally. In addition, several dozen halls and galleries for stone exhibitions give Pinggu the nickname, "Town of Ornamental Stones".
The festival runs through May 5, with ornamental stone appraisals and an auction.
