Beijing 21-km Half Marathon got off to a start at 9:00 am on April 11, at the Binhe Forest Park in the Changping district, with about 570 runners, including Deng Linlin, a women's gymnastics gold medal winner at the London 2012 Olympic Games, taking part in.
The event has official certifications for those who finish the race, with the support of the Chinese Athletic Association, and it has experienced judges who have handled such events as the Beijing International Marathon.
A fan of long-distance running, Wang Ze, took first prize after about 72 minutes and was rewarded with a trophy and prize money, along with 19 others.
The contestants also got a chance to visit an agriculture carnival later, to get a look at modern agricultural technology and traditional methods. The carnival started on March 14 and runs to May 3 in Changping's Strawberry Expo Park.
One of its organizers said they gave the runners free admission because the Marathon advocates a low-carbon and healthy way of life, which coincides with this 3rd Beijing Agriculture Carnival's theme.
