When Beijing's Pinggu district had the opening ceremony for the annual Pinggu International Peach Blossom Music Festival, on April 6, at Jinhai Lake, it held a gourmet food culture festival, photography contest, and dozens of activities with sports, entertainment and music going on all around.
At the opening ceremony, the district announced its bid for the 2020 World Leisure Congress and asked the prominent pianist Lang Lang to perform for the event, where he was also named Beijing’s tourism image ambassador. Song Yu, head of the city’s Tourism Development Commission, presented Lang with his certification. The pianist replied that he will contribute to Beijing’s image at his performance worldwide. This was followed by peach flower songs and dances with tourists invited to enjoy the peach blossoms.
Right now, Pinggu is working on its bid and a publicity video. Officials say the district will use the bid as an opportunity to develop its leisure tourism with various activities involving flower blossoms, sports, healthcare, landscape, scenery, and culture at the festival. This will pave the way for local tourism and shift the focus from sightseeing to leisure.
The music festival organizers will open blossom bus lines every Wednesday and Saturday, April 6 - May 6, starting from Qianmen, Deshengmen and Xuanwumen, with 1-day and 2-day trips to Pinggu.
Pinggu will also hold an international leisure forum, photography contest, Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei matchmaking meeting and traditional Chinese medicine travel program. There will be an international pop music event on May 1-3, with more than 40 top-notch musicians. The peach blossom music festival lasts until May 6.
