The Peking University International Hospital (the ninth hospital affiliated to Peking University), located in the Zhongguancun Life Science Park, started to admit patients on Dec 5.
The hospital was jointly invested in by Peking University and the Founder Group. Its overall floorage covers 440,000 square meters and involved 4.5 billion yuan ($730 million) in total investment. It has 1,800 beds and 46 operation rooms, including 159 beds in intensive care units. More than 1,400 people are employed at the hospital, with nearly 75 percent of them being medical staff.
The hospital will effectively help solve medical problems for residents in northern Beijing, balance medical resources across the city, improve functions of the life science park, and boost rapid development of R&D and the high-tech industry in Zhongguancun Science Park.
The hospital is Beijing's biggest non-profit hospital involving social capital investment, as well as an innovation of the medical service model and national medical investment system. It will continue to develop a new medical service system. The hospital has already cooperated with well-known medical and scientific research institutes in the UK, the US and Germany, as well as the Beijing Red Cross and Beijing Medical University United Pharmaceutical Co.
Han Qide, vice-chairman of the CPPCC, top government officials and representatives from Zhongguancun Development Group and Peking University attended the opening ceremony.
