The Rencontre, an exhibition marking the 50th anniversary of the Sino-French relationship, kicked off at a hall in Beijing No 47 Middle School, which is one of the historic sites that witnessed the friendship of the two countries, in the city’s Haidian district on Oct 31.
The exhibition displayed many precious photos and materials that record the history of cultural exchanges in Haidian’s Xishan Mountain area, which is home to about 20 historic sites of Sino-French friendship.

Through a number of photos, objects, and videos, the exhibition brought visitors back to the past through a group of French friends' lives in the area, including Dr. Jean Bussiere (1872-1960), great French literary scholar Andre d'Hormon and French poet Saint-John Perse.

Besides this exhibition, the city is planning a Sino-French cultural exchange center in Xishan Mountain area in Haidian, which is also a part of this year’s celebration campaign.
In addition, Haidian district will invite international experts to make cultural and artistic creations based on the theme as well as tourism promotion activities in the Xishan Mountain area, hoping to enhance the exchange between France and China, and gain more of a global presence.
The opening ceremony attracted about 200 guests from China and France, including Dr. Jean Bussière’s son Jean-Pierre Bussière, and his wife Marie-Chantal Bussière.
As an important part of the China-France Culture Year, the city of Beijing has hosted a group of activities to celebrate the 50-year long diplomatic relationship, including two exhibitions "The Villa of Dr. Jean Bussière (1872-1960), a French Doctor in Beijing" and the other exhibition, which presents the story of China's Old Summer Palace, or Yuanmingyuan, in Paris in September.
