An alliance of Zhongguancun smart hardware industry, the first of its kind in China, was launched in Zhongguancun Science Park, Beijing, on Oct 22.
The alliance was initiated by 21 industrial giants in the park, including Baidu, JD.com, Qihoo and Xiaomi.
Zhongguancun will take smart hardware as a key construction project in the future. It will form five public technology and services platforms, including certification and R&D.
High-tech companies such as Baidu, Xiaomi and LeTV have been focusing on smart hardware and have launched a number of hardware platforms, including smart phones, smart TVs, boxes and routers.
Despite the momentum of the smart hardware industry, it also faces some challenges such as product promotion.
"Creating a public service platform and setting up uniform standards are our top priority. The 21 initial companies cover various industries including chip design, Internet, big-data and the certification of E-commerce business," said Guo Hong, director of the administrative committee of Zhongguancun Science Park.
"The park will learn from the western countries by doing three things at the same time: R&D, cultivating the market and setting up standards," he went on to say.
Some experts think that the smart hardware should be established on the basis of big-data. The key to success in hardware is innovative thought. Zhongguancun is at the heart of China's internet industry where a group of IT giants has clustered. It has a solid foundation for developing its smart hardware industry.
