BEIJING -- Belgium's Philippe Gilbert won the final edition of the Tour of Beijing on Tuesday after an intense sprint of the final and fifth stage on Tuesday.

Ireland's Dan Martin, who was last year's runner-up, again took second place overall, while 24-year-old Esteban Chaves of Colombia took third.

Italian Sacha Modolo of Lampre-Merida won a grueling sprint to take the race's fifth and final stage, a 117-kilometre course that started at Tiananmen Square.

In the last 1 kilometer before the finish line located at the east gate of Water Cube, Modolo showed a great sprinting power to complete the race first with 2 hours 40 minutes and 10 seconds.

Gilbert from BMC clinched the title on 17 hours 59 minutes and 57 seconds.

Michal Golas from QuickStep won the "King of Mountain" award, Chaves was the winner of "the best young rider".

GreenEDGE triumphed in the team classification, a clocking time of 54 hours 1 minute and 16 seconds, 1 minute and 19 seconds ahead of Eurocar.
