After being selected as a candidate to host the 2022 Winter Olympic Games on July 7, Beijing and its co-host city, Zhangjiakou, Hebei province, are bracing for the next phase of the bidding process, which focuses on writing a report that will guide the following preparations to come.
In the applicant city phase, Beijing and Zhangjiakou easily met the basic requirements of the International Olympic Committee, the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games Bid Committee said in a report on Friday.
The Beijing committee has made a preliminary plan for the locations of competition venues, the Olympic Village and the media center based on geography, weather, traffic and other considerations.
In an international competition to design venues and support facilities in Zhangjiakou and Beijing's Yanqing county, the committee has selected three wining teams from Canada, Austria and South Korea .
The design process has started.
In the candidate city phase, the Beijing committee will make every effort to heighten its chances.
The official website of the joint bid (http://www.beijing-2022.cn) was launched on Thursday - it will be a major source of bid information and a channel to get feedback from the public.
The committee has a big job ahead of it in the second phase, preparing the bidding report - or candidate file - which must be submitted before Jan 7, 2015.
That report is the candidate's blueprint for the Olympic games, covering such matters as venues, transport, security, accommodations and marketing.
The vision the committee presents should be both grand and practical, showing the real image of a growing country and friendly people, as well as how it intends to keep its promises, said Guo Jinlong, Beijing's Party chief and the first deputy head of the bid committee.
The bid will inspire residents of Beijing and Hebei province as well as other areas to become interested in winter sports, which will enrich their lives, Guo said.
He said the joint bid with Zhangjiakou would fuel coordinated development in the region.
Zhou Benshun, Party chief of Hebei province, agreed with Guo on the joint bid's being a golden opportunity to promote integrated development.
He said the province would fuel the growth of the service sector and try to make up for any weak sections in the joint bid.
The IOC's evaluation commission will visit applicant cities in February and March before selecting the host city of the 2022 Games on July 31 next year.
