About 90 students from universities in Beijing participated in a campaign to promote the preservation of the Great Wall with a hiking excursion, according to a launching ceremony held at Badaling Great Wall in a suburb of Beijing on July 20.

The one-month campaign, approved by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, will encourage more than 400 students from a total of 97 universities in China to pursue their field studies along the way.
The hikers will finish the Beijing section of the Great Wall, which was part of the whole 4,000-kilometer journey from Jiayuguan Pass to Shanhaiguan Pass.
Students from provinces along the way will join the campaign as well.
