Awaiting the great jig

The upcoming Chinese Dance Masterpieces will provide youngsters from the mainland with a platform to showcase their skills. Photo provided to China Daily

Many people might not know these younger artists but there will likely be a lot of imagination on display at the show, says Feng and adds, "It will be a new experience for audiences."

Yang Meiqi, a veteran dance teacher who established one of China's first modern dance troupes, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, in 1992, recommended nine choreographers from a modern dance class she founded in 2000.

Wang, 70, is a selector at this year's Chinese Dance Masterpieces. The nine choreographers, all in their 30s, will end the show with their piece Ten Years.

"They represent different styles. They are the future of Chinese modern dance," Wang adds.
