The Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, or Beihang University, and the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) signed a cooperation agreement to establish the Beihang-EPFL Space Technology Initiative - a space technology center- in Zhongguancun on June 12.
The center aims to develop advanced technology and foster innovation. The two universities will make full use of their strength in scientific research. They will carry out interdisciplinary education and research in various fields including space science and technology, information science and mechanical engineering.
Meanwhile, the center will also promote cooperation between enterprises, colleges and universities of China and Switzerland.
Founded in 1853, EPFL is a world-renowned science and engineering college which was ranked 19th in the QS World University Rankings in 2013. Located in Lausanne, Switzerland, the university has a total of seven institutes and receives students, professors and staff from over 120 countries.
