More than 1,000 driving schools around China began to use an electronic test system to replace the examiner, who always sits with a straight face and makes the candidates too nervous to take exams.
The system, which was invented by a Zhongguancun-based scientific and technology company – Xingguang Yuda, consists of a smart test device in the truck of the vehicle and an electronic screen in front of the co-driver’s seat.
The candidate’s information, such as name and ID number, is entered into a case-size electronic device before the examination, and the screen offers accurate measurements of the candidates’ every operation and gives assessments of their tests in real time.
The device uses satellite techniques to locate the cars. Without an examiner sitting in the front seat, the electronic screen will display the process of the exam. If the car oversteps the boundary by even a few inches, the device will detect the miss immediately and the student will fail on the exam.
The device also has the technology of high-precision detection; it can detect a distance change at a speed of 0.01 centimeter in a second. With the precision of the device, students don’t need to worry about the accuracy of the exam.
"It used to take three or four months to prepare for a venue for examination, but now it only takes one week with the new system," said Li Jiangcheng, the chief inventor of the technology from Xingwang Yuda.
Because of its high efficiency and convenience, tens of thousands cars in driving schools in a group of cities and provinces, including Beijing, Anhui and Hebei had installed the system by the end of 2013.
