Royal Danish Embassy holds Open Denmark Day

The Royal Danish Embassy in Beijing held its annual Open Denmark Day on May 31, with the aim of showcasing Danish culture, food and design and allowing Chinese people to increase their knowledge about Denmark - as well as to celebrate the friendly ties between Denmark and China.

More than 4,000 Chinese nationals participated in the event, enjoying the first day of the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival holiday at the embassy in a very Danish atmosphere.

The Danish "Michelin" star chef John Kofod Pedersen demonstrated New Nordic Cooking with a special menu.

Danish companies and organizations active in the Chinese market - like LEGO, House of Amber, Carlsberg, Kopenhagen Fur and Bang & Olufsen - also had the opportunity to present their products and services during the event.

One of the highlights of this year’s Open Day concerned the upcoming Danish Cultural Season in China, as Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen announced the winners of the Royal Danish Embassy’s H.C. Andersen drawing contest.

Following the state visit of the Danish Queen in April, the embassy received drawings from children around China featuring the author’s fairytale characters such as the Little Mermaid. As part of their prize, the three young winners had the chance to bake cookies with the ambassador at his residence.
