Beijing's Yizhuang signed two projects worth 1.9 billion yuan ($304.2 million) at the signing ceremony of scientific and technological cooperation projects during the 17th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) on May 15, 2014, accounting for 40 percent of the total contract amount.
One of the projects, the Doov mobile communication terminal project, which is being invested in by the Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area (BDA) in Yizhuang, will focus on R&D and production of handheld terminal products, such as mobile phones and wearable devices. With a total investment of about 700 million yuan, the project is expected to reach an output target in 2018 and make annual income of at least 2 billion yuan.
The other project plans to build a comprehensive antibody industrialization base which will develop the world's most advanced fully humanized antibody and new vaccines with its own technology. The project, with a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan, is scheduled to start construction next year and will be put into operation in 2018.
"The two projects have shown our determination to promote high-end industries in the area,” said a representative of the BDA.
Yizhuang is accelerating the transformation and upgrading of its industries and exploring new ways to develop its entire economy. The electronic information industry and bio-pharmaceutical industry will focus on the next generation of mobile communications and antibodies respectively.
The output value of high-tech manufacturing industries in BDA accounts for 25 percent of the city's total output while that of the electronic information industry and bio-pharmaceutical industry exceeds 40 percent.
Yizhuang exhibited more than 50 products, including a 110-inch LCD panel, 3D printer and sports watch, from 41 key enterprises at Hall 1A of the China International Exhibition Center during this year’s CHITEC, showcasing its industry chains, industry clusters and products with advanced technologies.
