UCWeb Inc, a leading Chinese browser maker and app distributer, teamed up with Alibaba Group Holding Ltd to launch a new mobile search service named Shenma on Monday.
The mobile search service, which has been in development by the Beijing-based UCWeb for the last four years, has integrated the tech team from Alibaba's search department and includes a team of experts from China's search giant Baidu Inc as well as Google Inc.
Yu Yongfu, CEO of UCWeb, said at a news conference celebrating the company's 10th anniversary that the mobile search brand Shenma has received great support from Jack Ma, founder and chairman of the board of the e-commerce giant Alibaba.
He said that the company will strengthen the cooperation with Alibaba in terms of product development and resources.
"The design of mobile search should be mobile-centered rather than personal computer-based," he said, adding that a successful mobile search service should meet the demands of mobile Internet users.
He aims to build Shenma into the largest Chinese language mobile search engine.
Since UCWeb was founded in 2004, it has grown into one of the largest third-party mobile browsers in China with more than 500 million users around the world.
