The Zhongguancun Index 2013 -- a report released by the Zhongguancun administrative committee -- showed that the biological and health industry in Zhongguancun Science Park grew faster than any other industry in 2012, Beijing Business Today reported on Monday. Total revenue in the industry increased by 30.2 percent compared with the previous year. Its profit growth rate reached 67.9 percent and exports rose by 63.8 percent.
Biological and health enterprises in the park are mainly engaged in genetic testing, R&D of new drugs, medical devices and mobile health. Many entrepreneurs in those fields have high degrees and overseas backgrounds. A survey showed that 95 percent of the entrepreneurs earned PhD degrees from foreign universities and 40 percent of them had more than 20 years of work experience. With profound academic background and rich experience, they applied overseas advanced technologies into the domestic market and successfully made breakthrough in key fields.
The park formulated a strategy to develop emerging industries at the end of 2012, including the energy conservation and environmental protection industry, new material industry, modern service industry, and biological and health industry.
