Scientific and technological cooperation and innovation play an important role in promoting the coordinated development of Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei, according to Zhao Haishan, director of the Tianjin Science and Technology Commission, Beijing Daily reported on Wednesday.
"The three regions' joint development has become a national strategy, providing more opportunities for cooperation in science and technology," Zhao explained.
Tianjin and Beijing should begin top-level designs for their joint projects, such as the innovation community and an industrial cluster zone. Zhao hopes the community can grow into an iconic brand as well as a demonstration area.
Zhao also pointed out that Tianjin should deepen cooperation with Beijing's Zhongguancun.
Meanwhile, the three regions should work together to prevent air pollution through scientific and technological cooperation, including establishing a strategic alliance to innovate environment monitoring equipment and conducting collaboration in PM2.5 monitoring.
The Tianjin Science and Technology Commission has carried out a number of scientific and technological cooperations with Beijing and Tianjin since last year. It has signed agreements with Beijing to share large-scale equipment and with Hebei to conduct comprehensive cooperation.
