The municipal government of Beijing is considering adjusting allowances for one-child families. The new policy will be discussed by the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal People's Congress this year, Beijing Deputy Mayor Yang Xiaochao said in an interview on Sunday.
"The revised policy will increase the subsidy for bereaved one-child parents. We are also considering including parents with only one child in the government medical insurance system," Yang added.

The policy that one-child families can get a monthly allowance of a mere 5 yuan ($0.80) has remained unchanged for about 30 years.
