A member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering said that smog mainly leads to more respiratory system diseases but has little effect on the reproductive system, People's Daily reported. The remarks by Guo Yinglu, a doctor at Peking University First Hospital, were in response to a Chinese Academy of Social Sciences report this month that said pollutants in smog have been shown to have obvious long-term effects on the human reproductive system.
