BEIJING - Beijing's gross domestic product (GDP) in the first three quarters of 2013 totaled 1.38 trillion yuan ($224.2 billion), up 7.7 percent year-on-year, the local government said on Friday.

According to statistics co-released by Beijing Statistics Bureau and the National Bureau of Statistics Beijing survey office, in the first nine months of 2013, the city's industrial added value was up 8.3 percent year-on-year. The capital's added value of the tertiary industry was up 7.5 percent year-on-year.

Total value of the city's imports in the first three quarters rose 6.6 percent year-on-year.

As Beijing's economy grew at a steady pace, the city's innovation ability also improved, said Yu Xiuqin, government spokesman for Beijing Statistics Bureau.

The number of patent applications in the city during the nine-month period grew 36.2 percent year-on-year, up 19.8 percentage points than the same period in 2012, while the number of patents licensed increased 29.3 percent year-on-year.
