A public welfare activity offering financial literacy lectures for the elderly was carried out in Beijing on Sep 8. The lectures aim to protect the elderly from financial fraud.
"Many old people are getting interested in pension fund management. To follow suit, I bought some financial products suggested by my friends, but I realized it was a trap," a local senior citizen surnamed Li said.
"In recent years, financial scams targeting senior citizens have become quite prevalent. It’s very necessary to warn the elderly of financial fraud through lectures like this," said Liu Jun, a lecturer from the Beijing Municipal Finance Bureau.
Beijing will organize 100 financial literacy lectures in different sub-districts and communities, covering counterfeit money identification, financial fraud, savings plan guidance and wealth management.
