Lesbians in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenyang and Wuhan are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the end of a ban on lesbians donating blood.
On July 1, 2012, the Ministry of Health changed its policy to permit lesbians to donate blood, though sexually active gay men remain banned. The ministry had put the ban into effect in 1998 out of fear that gays were spreading HIV/AIDS.
