The 16th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo (CHITEC) will kick off on May 21 and last until May 26 in Beijing.
This CHITEC will focus on pursuing development driven by innovation and economic restructuring. As a window for scientific achievements and a communication platform for leading ideas, it also aims to help match projects.
The CHITEC devotes itself on helping technology, capital and information meet the demands of industrial development, markets, enterprises and research. It emphasizes the leading role of scientific innovation in economic and social development.
The six-day event will have various activities, including an opening ceremony at the Great Hall of the People on May 21. Keynote speeches will be made by the minister of the Ministry of Science and Technology, high-profile representatives from international organizations, an academician from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and heads of Stated-owned enterprises.
Meanwhile, a five-day high-tech exhibition will kick off at the China International Exhibition Center on May 22. The exhibition will have14 themed pavilions, featuring aerospace science and technology, circular economy and energy-saving emission reduction technology.
There will be eight summit conferences on topics such as ecological civilization and smart cities. A total of 11 promotion activities will be organized during the CHITEC as well.
This year’s CHITEC has six unique characteristics compared with previous sessions.
This CHITEC will give a comprehensive display of the breakthroughs of key common technologies in China’s emerging strategic industries to promote the achievements in application and lead industrial upgrades.
A group of the 94 most-advanced scientific achievements, as well as equipment and products that have made breakthroughs in key technologies in emerging strategic industries, will serve as centerpieces in this year’s high-tech exhibition. The centerpieces involve five sectors: information, biology and medicine, advanced manufacturing, advanced energy techniques and modern agriculture.
China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation will exhibit its painstaking work on its debut at the exhibition, such as manned space flight and lunar exploration project, Global Beidou navigation system, and many other fields.
Some state-owned enterprises, including China Huaneng Group, China Electronics and China North Industries Group will also display their achievements in undertaking major national scientific projects.
This CHITEC will attach more importance on national innovation. It will focus on market-oriented and enterprise-centered integration between the industry, academies and research.
More than 30 universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University and Zhejiang University will demonstrate roughly 120 research projects at the CHITEC for the first time.
Zhongguancun Science Park, which has participated in the CHITEC for 15 years, will display its achievements in resource integration, service platform construction, innovation and entrepreneurship promotion, and emerging industries cluster development. Some of the emerging sectors include Next Generation Internet, mobile Internet, innovative technologies, and products and overall solutions for “green”, “smart” and “ecological” lifestyles.
The CHITEC will pay special attention to the innovative development trend in scientific parks and boost regional economic cooperation. It will provide communication opportunities for industrial cooperation and technology transfer among regions.
About 18 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, including Tianjin, Hebei and Shandong, will promote a group of major cooperation projects in competitive and emerging industries.
The CHITEC promotion and negotiation activities have received nearly 100 key industrial cooperation projects seeking regional and international cooperation submitted by Shaanxi, Guangxi and Henan. The projects involve new materials, renewable energy, modern manufacturing and modern agriculture, most of which are key industrial cooperation projects during the 12th Five-Year Plan.
The construction of an ecological civilization will be given full attention in this year’s CHITEC. The exhibit will feature various energy-conservation and emission-reduction products and technologies, resource utilization developments, intelligent streetlight energy savers, indoor LED lamps and digital automatic energy conservation solutions for various industries.
The high-tech expo also seeks to explore more opportunities for cooperation and build a complete industry chain cooperation platform. A large number of key parks and projects all over the country will be introduced at the expo.
The organizing committee will integrate negotiation and promotion activities with exhibitors to provide a wide range services at the exhibition. In addition, promotions and contract signing activities for provinces and municipalities will be held during the expo.
This year’s exhibit will further expand on the ideal that “science and technology can improve people’s livelihood”. In the Smart Beijing exhibition, an exhibition focusing on innovative applications of information technology, nearly 100 companies, including China Mobile and China Unicom, will feature applications that can impact people’s lives, covering sectors such as smart transportation, smart community, robots, 3D printing and 4G networks.
At present, preparations for the expo are basically complete. Up to now, 11 international organizations – including the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the World Bank Group and the International Solar Energy Society – and more than 50 delegations from government agencies and technological and business circles from roughly 20 countries and regions, including the United States Britain, France, Germany, South Korea, Singapore and Hong Kong, will attend the event.
More than 30 domestic provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities are organizing delegations for full participation in the CHITEC.
The preparatory work for the exhibition will begin quite soon. More than 2,000 exhibitors will participate in the exhibition, including high-tech enterprises, universities and research institutions at home and abroad, as well as science and technology industrial parks and economic and technological development zones across the country.
