Yizhuang, or Beijing Economic-Technological Development Area, held an awards ceremony, on April 26, to recognize companies or individuals that have contributed significantly to its development, with 10 companies, including Nokia and Beijing Benz, getting the Top 10 Outstanding Company award, and 10 people, including Zhao Tong, SMC Corp’s GM, taking the Top 10 Outstanding Person award. And, just over, 57 million yuan ($9.29 million) in capital support has gone to 50 companies that paid the most in taxes and 50 that saw the biggest growth in tax revenues
One of the heads of Yizhuang, explained, “Companies are a vital force for us in being innovative and leaping ahead in development to become a leader in Beijing’s scientific development.”
The winners have all played a key role in Yizhuang’s development, with 31 of them contributing to nearly 70 percent of all output value in the area. They are also leaders in their fields, for example, Nokia, which has helped the area’s electronic information industry, or the BOE Technology (Group) Co, which built a digital TV industrial chain, or the Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp, a key player in microelectronics. In addition, there is Bayer in bio-pharmaceuticals and equipment, and Beijing Benz Automotive in automobiles.
These companies have also made progress in scientific innovation, with BOE applying for 2,000 patents in 2012. The Capital Engineering & Research Corp has won 55 national awards for its inventions and scientific and technological development and has 357 patents.
Yizhuang has seen growth and development in its top manufacturing and strategic emerging industries in the fisrt quarter of this year, with an industrial output valued at 63.85 billion yuan, up 20.7 percent year-on-year, and a high for the past six years.
Yizhuang’s leaders say they have kept an eye on talent and have brought in 41 top scientists and industrial leaders from abroad and have encouraged them to make breakthroughs and develop the area’s high-tech industry. For this year’s awards, 10 people got the Outstanding Talent award, including Bai Xianhong, of the Biotech Pharmaceutical Co.
