The 2013 Beijing Film Market (BFM), a key event at the Beijing International Film Festival (BIFF), negotiated 27 contracts worth of 8.73 billion yuan ($1.41 billion) during the three-day activities since its opening on April 22.
The total business turnover rose to a new high during the BFM, with a 28.57 percent and 65 percent increase in the quantity and value of contracts from the previous year, respectively. Among them, about 21 are valued at over 100 million yuan, and 10 are international cooperation projects.
Roughly 3.11 billion yuan in contracts for film projects were signed, 28.38 percent higher than last year. Projects for the construction of movie theaters and movie & TV production bases are valued at about 3 billion yuan, 53.85 percent higher than the previous year. Projects for film investment and financing, microfilms, motion picture techniques and related services totaled 2.62 billion yuan in total.
China has become the world’s second largest movie market. Its box office revenues surged 40 percent to 5.2 billion yuan in the first quarter of 2013, the organizing committee said.
To provide a better environment for the rapidly developing Chinese film industry and to adjust its position in the world film market, the title of this section was changed from “The Film Business” in the first two years to this year’s “Beijing Film Market,” so as to build a continued platform for international film exchange.
The 2013 BFM attracted more than 3,000 guests and roughly 800 domestic and international enterprises and organizations, about 30 percent and 50 percent increases from last year, respectively. More than 80 out of 200 participants in the BFM are international enterprises and organizations, a 30 percent increase from last year. About 30 internationally renowned special effects companies were invited to display their most advanced motion picture techniques at the BFM.
The BFM provides a comprehensive and convenient platform for international film exchange with the participation of film enterprises, film & TV production bases, film industry associations, government departments and related agencies. It targets the entire industry chain, including film planning, production and distribution. It will also help to promote the development of related industries, such as film financing, publishing, advertisement and legal services.
