The stamps are now available at 36,000 post offices across the country.
The set of special stamps is the first to use peach blossoms as a centerpiece since the establishment of modern China. It is also the second largest set after the 16-stamp set of Qi Baishi’s work. Qi was one of the great masters of Chinese painting.
The stamps are painted in special printing ink with a peach blossom fragrance. The various charming peach blossoms and refreshing scent will wow users.
The set has 12 stamps with different peach blossoms on each one. The denomination is 13.9 yuan ($2.24).
Pinggu has the biggest peach garden in the world, covering an area of 14,674 hectares. It was recognized as the world’s biggest peach planting area by Shanghai Guinness in 2002. The local government named the peach blossom as the “flower of Pinggu”. Pinggu has also been elected as a top 10 destination for flower sightseeing by tourists in recent years.
Pinggu also hosts festivals themed around its flower, such as The Beijing Pinggu International Peach Blossom Music Festival, which has been held for 14 years and attracts visitors from around the world.
This year’s music festival will take place in April. There will be activities including a Romantic Music Week and Romantic Film Week.
The issuance of special peach blossom stamps does not only promote peach blossoms, but also expands the influence of Pinggu’s tourism culture and industry.
The stamps serve as an example of a local Chinese specialty and creates a new approach to promote Beijing’s image as a global city and center of culture and tourism.
