The Beijing International Garden Expo has received nearly 50,000 online applications since its volunteer recruitment began on Dec 5, 2012.
Among all the applicants, 37,593 are students from universities and colleges in Beijing, accounting for 77.36 percent of the total. Roughly 10,850 hail from all walks of life, accounting for 22.33 percent.
There are 151 applicants from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas countries. Applicants born in the 1980s and 1990s account for 98 percent of the total. There are also many applicants born in the 1940s and 1950s.
From March 10 to 25, the organizers of the expo will begin recruiting five kinds of professional volunteers, including interpreters and etiquette personnel. Selection and training will start at the end of this month.
This year’s recruitment work will be carried out using high-tech methods. Volunteers can visit the official website or the official Sina microblog of the Beijing International Garden Expo for more details.
The human resources department of the expo recently unveiled the event’s “spirit of volunteers”, “slogan”, badge and mascot, as well as the theme song. The volunteers also have their own new nickname: “Little V Bees”. (V stands for volunteers, and Bee is a diligent animal in Chinese culture.)
