Cheng Hong is now vice-mayor of Beijing municipality, chairman of the Federation of Industry and Commerce, and deputy chairman of the China Democratic League of Beijing municipality. She is mainly responsible for ethnic affairs, commerce, administration of industry and commerce, and affairs related to overseas Chinese.
She was a deputy to the 10th National People's Congress and is a member of the 11th CPPCC National Committee.
Prior to her public service, Cheng Hong taught economics at Beijing Wuzi University where she was associate dean of the economics department, director of the graduate department and director of the Institute of Circulation Economics. She later served as deputy director general of the Beijing Municipal Commission of Commerce; deputy director general of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Commerce; vice-mayor of Chaoyang district, Beijing municipality; director general of the Administration Board of Beijing Central Business District (CBD); vice-chairperson of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the China Democratic League; and chairperson of the Beijing Federation of Industry and Commerce.
