Overview
Founded in 1956, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) is one of the earliest established higher education institutions for Chinese medicine in the People's Republic of China. BUCM is under supervision of China's Ministry of Education and has been appointed as a participant in the 211 Project, a national development project committed to achieving first-class international-level education and scholarship.
BUCM consists of 13 schools and offers degree programs at undergraduate, graduate and postdoctoral levels in Chinese medicine. The schools are: School of Pre-clinical Medicine; First School of Clinical Chinese Medicine (Dong Zhi Men Hospital); Second School of Clinical Chinese Medicine (Dong Fang Hospital); Third School of Clinical Chinese Medicine (Third Affiliated Hospital); School of Chinese Materia Medica; School of Acupuncture, Moxibustion and Tuina; School of Management; School of Nursing; School of Humanities; Graduate School; International School; School of Continuing Education and School of Distance Learning.
BUCM has continued to grow in size and status, building on the excellence of our scholarship and the talent of our students. It delivers world-class degree programs, training and research across a wide range of subjects and offers the best possible educational, cultural and social experience for its students.
BUCM is home to a vibrant community of 22,308 students from different backgrounds. Among 10,581 full-time enrolled students, 6,614 are undergraduate students (including 1,254 international students); 1,406 are professional students (1,138 vocational students, 268 nursing students); 1,992 are master’s degree students; and 569 are PhD students. International students from some 52 countries and areas account for more than 15 percent of the total number of full-time students.
BUCM has a wide range of facilities and affiliated hospitals through which students and staff benefit from top-level teaching, research and clinical practice opportunities.
