Overview
Beihang University (BUAA), formerly known as Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, was founded in 1952 and was the first university of aerospace technology in the country. It has developed into an open, comprehensive, research oriented institute that focuses on aeronautics, astronautics and informatics. Since the 1950s, BUAA has excelled as one of the 16 key state universities in the country. After more than 50 years of development, BUAA has grown into a science and technology university with aerospace features, combining disciplines in science, engineering, liberal arts, law, economics, management and education. Roughly 24,000 students are enrolled, including over 10,000 postgraduate students. Doctoral programs are available in 49 fields, master’s programs in 144 fields and bachelor’s programs in 48 subjects.
BUAA has been equipped with advanced laboratories and teaching apparatuses. It employs over 3,000 faculty members, including more than 460 professors and 1,000 associate professors. Over 130 professional laboratories – 35 are listed as State or ministry key laboratories – serve students and staff. Seating more than 4,000 people, Beihang Library is one of China’s top university libraries.
BUAA is qualified to admit all categories of international students, including those sponsored by the Chinese Government Scholarship. The first group of international students, seven candidates studying for master’s degrees, registered at BUAA in 1993. Over 800 international students were enrolled in BUAA as of 2008. At that time, 400 international students were studying for their doctoral, master’s or bachelor’s degrees. Another 400 were studying Chinese language in the Chinese Language Training Center (CLTC).
The International School was established in 2004 to develop the university’s global education, responsible for developing educational programs and extracurricular activities for international students. The office is in charge of applications, entry examinations, admissions, registration, and the study and daily life of international students. The International School offers master’s, doctoral and bachelor’s degree programs and provides long and short Chinese training programs, professional training courses, summer school in space technology, and many other specialized programs to meet rising demands for international education. The CLTC was established in 1994 and noted for its excellent and experienced teaching staff, as well as its access to modern multimedia teaching facilities. It is committed to providing the highest quality in education and maintains meticulous academic requirements for international students.
The campus offers many extracurricular activities, such as table tennis, badminton, basketball, Chinese singing activities, photography exhibitions, and Chinese calligraphy and pictures. Every semester the campus organizes trips for international students to visit scenic areas and cultural relics in and around Beijing.

MASTA program
Space technology and its applications have advanced rapidly in recent years, which has been one of the most fascinating technical achievements of the human race during the last four decades of the 20th century. Numerous practical benefits from space technology will play a central role in international development.
To translate the recommendation of the United Nations Program on Space Applications (UN-PSA) into an operational program, Beihang University has initiated the master’s degree program on space technology applications (MASTA) especially for Asia-Pacific applicants in 2006.

Chinese Language Training Center of Beihang University (CLTC)
The CLTC was established in 1994 and attached to the International School of Beihang University (BUAA). The CLTC is noted for excellent and experienced teachers and staff and boasts modern multimedia teaching facilities for students. The CLTC provides students with various training programs and syllabi, including fundamental Chinese, oral Chinese, and scientific and technological Chinese. To promote a good understanding of Chinese culture, history, society and tradition for students, it offers colorful activities such as linguistics practice, scenic spot trips, and trips outside Beijing. Several thousands international students – from more than 30 countries, such as Korea, the US, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, France and Germany – have graduated from the center since 1994. Many students have achieved qualifications to study in the country for further education. The CLTC welcomes students from all over the world to join them.
The Chinese Language Training Center regards instructing students in basic and practical Chinese as its main purpose and focuses on improving the students' listening, speaking, reading and writing abilities, equipping them for the HSK test and future challenges in their careers.
