Beijing Municipal Administration of Work Safety has the following functions:
1. Manage workplace safety in the city, analyze and predict workplace safety, draw up relevant work plans and supervise and manage workplace safety.
2. Draft local regulations for workplace safety, and implement relevant policies; investigate and study major cases of workplace safety and propose countermeasures.
3. Compile statistics on the number of industrial accidents and release information on worksite safety; coordinate investigations and handling of industrial accidents, propose accountability measures for accidents and supervise handling of the aftermath; coordinate emergency rescue operations of industrial accidents.
4. Enforce provisions on security facilities of new, renovations and extension projects must be designed, built and put into use at the same time with principal parts of projects (hereinafter referred to as "three at the same time").
5. Enforce workplace safety regulations by business operators in the city, check workplace sanitation, monitor major sources of dangers and remove major potential hazards, supervise and inspect workplace safety conditions, the use of relevant equipment and facilities (excluding special equipment) and safety conditions of protective apparatuses, and penalize organizations that fail to provide safe working conditions.
6. Confirm qualifications of non-governmental intermediary organizations involved in assessing, consulting, testing and examining workplace safety and inspect their work.
7. Organize campaigns to raise people's awareness of workplace safety in the city, carry out training and evaluation programs on workplace safety; confirm qualifications of certified safety engineers.
8. Supervise safe production of dangerous chemicals and fireworks in the city.
9. Draft science and technology plans for workplace safety, and guide scientific research on workplace safety and dissemination of new technologies.
10. Conduct international exchanges for workplace safety. Undertake other duties assigned by the Municipal Government.
