Beijing Public Transport Holdings is a large state-owned enterprise involved in ground transportation.
By the end of 2009, it had a fleet of 27,963 vehicles in operation over 882 bus routes. The annual mileage was 1.86 billion kilometers, and the number of passenger trips 5.03 billion. In the field of transportation, it is a large conglomerate with investment across a variety of sectors, including group transportation, vehicle services, car-rentals, bus advertising, material procurement and sales, communications, tourism, restaurants, and trade. It has 14 branches, nine share-holding subsidiaries, and two affiliated institutions, employing 116,158 people.
BPT follows a "Facilitating Travel, Improving Service" policy to integrate management in urban public transport, with the focus on operations, safety, and services. BPT’s public transport system uses buses and trolleys as its main conveyances, with special-line buses, air-conditioned buses, double-decker buses, long-distance coaches, minibuses, and taxicabs.
