Mentougou district, occupying an area of 1,331.3 square kilometers, is divided into 18 townships and five neighborhood committees with a population of 270,000.
96 percent of the district is mountainous with more than one hundred peaks.
It is rich in coal, limestone, and granite reserves.
Major local agricultural products include roses, day lilies, wild jujubes, mushrooms and Beijing white pears.
