Fangshan district covers 1,866.7 square kilometers and is divided into 3 towns, 29 townships and one neighborhood committee with a population of 760,000.
The district is 60 percent mountainous with many rivers, which is 45 kilometers from the city center.
Famous for places of historic interests, the district is rich for in natural resources and indigenous products, such as snow-white marble, chestnuts, persimmons, Beijing white pears, and hongxiao pears.
It is home to some large-scale enterprises.
