Chaoyang district is the largest and most modern urban district, and is regarded as a window of international exchanges.
Occupying an area of 470.6 square kilometers north of Jianguomenwai Avenue between the city's Eastern Second Ring and the Fourth Ring roads, Chaoyang district is divided into 21 neighborhood committees and 24 townships with a population of 2.3 million.
It is an important non-staple food production base and industrial district.
More than 98 percent of foreign embassies, foreign representative offices of the United Nations, news agencies and 62 percent of the city's five star hotels are located here.
Chaoyang district is also home to facilities, such as the Olympic Park, Capital Airport, Workers' Stadium, and the Asian Games Village and more than 60 percent of foreign business agencies, 3,000 foreign companies and 167 international agencies. In 2000, GDP in Chaoyang district reached 48 billion yuan ($ 7.7 billion).
